Most of Catholic University's students have left for the summer. While they're gone, more than 9,000 visitors will take their place during summer conferences and events. Last month the University hosted Special Olympics D.C.'s summer games for the 12th consecutive year. In addition, more than 60 diverse local, national, and international faith-based and community-based groups will be using campus space for housing, meetings, and conferences. Residence halls serve as accommodations for conference guests and more than 250 students and interns. Groups using campus spaces this summer include Catholic Relief Services, D.C. Preparatory Academy, several Girl Scout troops, Capital City Public Charter School, Providence Hospital, the District of Columbia Healthcare Association, and Catholic Charities USA. According to Tim Carney, associate vice president for campus services, many groups choose to come to Catholic University not only because of the facilities and services it offers, but also because of its convenient location in Washington, D.C. and easy access via Metrorail.
The University offers visiting groups a variety of meeting facilities including classrooms, conference spaces, auditoriums, reception rooms, computer labs, and athletic facilities.
