Reading and Discussion Series This fall-through-spring series focuses on new or rarely produced works and contemporary issues, followed by discussion between panelists and the audience, cast, and directors. During the 1950s, fear of communist influences and infiltrators in America led the House Un-American Activities Committee, headed by Sen. Joe McCarthy, to harass and question prominent figures in the arts and entertainment industry. Bentley focuses on the testimony of anguished witnesses who were forced to make a choice. In addition to post-show discussion, each reading includes a rare taped video interview with the 95-year-old Eric Bentley, renowned theatre critic, playwright, translator, and editor. Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at Theater J, 1529 16th St., N.W., Washington, DC; and on Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. at CUA's Hartke Theatre.
