As the storm continues to make its way through the Washington, D.C., area, students are strongly encouraged to stay indoors through the night and to be sure to keep all windows closed. The Student Restaurant will open for breakfast in the Pryzbyla Center at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The Catholic University of America will be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 30, due to adverse weather conditions in the Washington, D.C., area. All classes are canceled.To find out about the closing of Catholic University because of inclement weather, students, faculty, and staff should visit www.cua.edu or call the university's main number - 202-319-5000. The information is available through those two sources by 6 a.m. on days when weather conditions are extremely poor.

University officials continue to monitor the storm. With the campus closed and classes cancelled for the day, students are encouraged to stay indoors. Should conditions worsen, the Emergency Management Team will activate the University's emergency communications plan.
Depending on whether the campus has power to operate and whether transportaton is available, an announcement on the resumption of classes for Tuesday will be made at the appropriate time. Any power outages, water damage, and property damage should be reported to the Office of Facilities by calling 202-319-5121.
All campus buildings, with the exception of the Pryzbyla Center, are closed. The Department of Public Safety will not be able to accommodate faculty, students, or staff wishing to gain entry to academic buildings until the campus officially reopens.
Dining services in the Pryzbyla Center are scheduled to close at 8 p.m. this evening. Students are encouraged to plan for meals accordingly. Carryout service will be available for students wishing to take their meals back to their residence halls.

Members of the CUA community: The National Weather Service states rain and wind will begin Monday morning, however, the most intense weather will occur between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. There are currently high wind watches and flood watches for the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. As the hurricane advances up the east coast, University officials will continue to monitor the weather conditions. As you know from media reports, Hurricane Sandy is approaching from the south and, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), may cause tropical storm conditions in the Carolinas on Saturday. According to NWS, it is expected to turn toward the northeast. University officials are monitoring the storm closely. Depending on its severity, the storm may affect University operations. This is a reminder that, as the storm reaches the Washington, D.C. area, the CUA website ( www.cua.edu ) is the official source for the most up-to-date information regarding University opening and/or closing for Monday, Oct. 29, 2012. The Office of Public Affairs will be providing periodic updates during the weekend that can be found in the blue box on the home page. The updates will advise what actions students, faculty, staff, and visitors should be taking depending on the severity of the forecasted weather conditions.
