CUA Experts Available to Discuss Violence and Children

Experts at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., are available to discuss how violence affects children and how children react to violent situations.

  • BEREAVEMENT AND FAMILIES - Margaret "Mimi" Mahon, associate professor of nursing, can comment on how to talk to children about death and violence. An expert on family bereavement, Mahon advocates talking to children about their questions and fears before presuming what they should or shouldn't know. Her clinical work has included pediatrics and adult palliative care in both hospital and community settings. Her research has involved various aspects of children's and family bereavement, family decision making related to serious illness, and different aspects of palliative care.  For 17 years, she was a regular guest on a Philadelphia children's radio show, "Kid's Corner." Contact Mahon at 202-319-6546 or mahon@cua.edu .
