School of Music Presents Spring Performance Preview

The Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at The Catholic University of America presents the following performances for the spring 2013 semester. Unless otherwise noted, all performances take place on the CUA campus, and admission is free and open to the public. New Voices @CUA Festival The University, in partnership with Great Noise Ensemble, presents the New Voices @CUA 2013 Festival, a series of concerts of new vocal works by emerging composers. Four concerts produced by students in the Composition Division will feature the works of 21 composers from the United States and England, and will include sacred music, art and cabaret songs, chamber music, and pieces by CUA student composers.

Tickets are free for CUA students and faculty with ID; $15 general admission; $10 seniors 60 and up and students with ID; free admission for students 17 and under when accompanied by ticketed adult; $50 general admission festival pass; $30 seniors and students with ID festival pass. Saturday, Jan. 26, 7:30 p.m.Chamber Music ConcertWard Recital Hall CUA Town and Gown Community Chorus The CUA Town and Gown Community Chorus will perform on Friday, Jan. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Chapel. Kevin O'Brien, lecturer in conducting, will conduct Britten: St. Nicholas, opus 42 featuring guest soloist Rick Christman, clinical assistant professor of voice, tenor.

The Music of Marvin Hamlisch The Musical Theatre Division's presentation of songs by Marvin Hamlisch will be Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 6 p.m., at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Musical: The Drowsy Chaperone The Music Theatre Division will present The Drowsy Chaperone on Friday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m.; Friday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m. Music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. Book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar. Tickets will be available February 2013. Performances will take place in Ward Recital Hall. Opera: Gounod's Romeo et Juliette The Voice Division presents Charles Gounod's classic opera Romeo et Juliette , sung in French with English surtitles. Performances will take place Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, March 14, 15, and 16, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, March 17, at 2 p.m. Featuring the CUA Symphony Orchestra, Adam Turner, conductor. Tickets will be available February 2013. Performances will be held at the Hartke Theatre. Washington International Piano Series A new series of performances by piano faculty and guest artists. All concerts will be performed on the new 9-ft. Steinway D concert grand in Ward Recital Hall. CUA Women's Chorus The CUA Women's Chorus will perform Saturday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m., at St. Vincent de Paul Chapel. Kevin O'Brien, lecturer, will conduct.

CUA University Chorus The CUA University Chorus will perform with the Brookewood School Choir and the Sanctuary Choir of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Friday, April 19, at 8 p.m., at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 10401 Armory Ave., Kensington, Md. N. Thomas Pedersen, clinical assistant professor and head of Musical Theatre Division, conductor.

CUA Town and Gown Community Chorus The CUA Town and Gown Community Chorus will perform Friday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m., at St. Vincent de Paul Chapel. Kevin O'Brien, lecturer, conductor. CUA University Singers and Chamber Choir Concert The CUA University Singers and CUA Chamber Choir will perform Saturday, April 27, 7:30 p.m., at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle, 1725 Rhode Island Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. Leo Nestor, Justine Bayard Ward Professor and director of the Institute of Sacred Music, conductor. CUA Symphony Orchestra The CUA Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Searle, professor, will perform Monday, April 29, 7:30 p.m., at Hartke Theatre. The performance will feature Strauss: Don Juan ; Schumann: Symphony No. 3 ; Whitall: Northlands , with Tommi Hyytinen, French horn. CUA Wind Ensemble The CUA Wind Ensemble will perform on Tuesday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m., in the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center Great Room, CUA campus. John Mitchell, conductor.
