CUA Experts Available to Discuss Lenten Season

- LENTEN TRADITIONS - Rev. Mark M. Morozowich, dean of theology and religious studies, is available to comment on the Catholic Church's liturgical traditions during the Lenten season, in particular from the perspective of its different rites (e.g. Byzantine, Maronite). Also an expert on the Latin rite, he has taught a Catholic University course on the historical study of the liturgical year and its traditions. He is the author, among many other writings, of the book "Holy Thursday in Jerusalem and Constantinople: Liturgical Celebrations from the Fourth to the Fourteenth Centuries" and the article "A Palm Sunday Procession in the Byzantine Tradition? - CELEBRATION OF LENT - Rev. Jude DeAngelo, O.F.M. Conv., University chaplain and director of Campus Ministry, is available to comment on the celebration of Lent. This year, Campus Ministry offers a Lenten guide based on the Prayer of St. Francis. The guide encourages students to reflect on one line of the prayer each week and suggests related acts of fasting and almsgiving. - MEANING OF LENT - Monsignor Kevin Irwin, the Monsignor Walter J. Schmitz, S.S. Professor of Liturgical Studies, is the author of 14 books on liturgy and sacraments. His writings include "Advent-Christmas, Lent and Easter: A Guide to Eucharist and Hours," "Liturgy, Prayer and Spirituality," "Liturgical Theology: A Primer" and "Context and Text: Method in Liturgical Theology." - SACRAMENTAL LITURGY AND EUCHARISTIC CELEBRATION - Rev. Michael Witczak, associate professor of liturgical studies and sacramental theology, specializes in the history of theology and Eucharistic celebration, sacramental theology, history of liturgy, and liturgical celebration of the saints. Previously, he served as a consultant to the U.S. Catholic bishops' Committee on the Liturgy. Father Witczak holds a doctorate in sacred liturgy from the Pontifical Liturgical Institute in Rome and is a member of several liturgical societies, including the Society for Catholic Liturgy. Presently he also serves as president of the North American Academy of Liturgy, an ecumenical association of academic and professional liturgists. He was awarded the Archbishop's Vatican II Award for Service in Liturgy in 2001 by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and the Sal Terrae Award for Service to the Church in 2007 by the Salesianum Alumni Association. - BIBLICAL TEXT AND LENTEN LITURGIES - Hellen Mardaga, assistant professor of New Testament studies, is an expert on the New Testament, the Gospel of John, the synoptic gospels, the vocabulary of Luke, and New Testament philology. - ECCLESIOLOGY AND ECUMENISM - Christopher Ruddy, associate professor of historical and systematic theology, is an expert on ecclesiology, the Catholic Church's role in public life, and ecumenism.
