"Sweet Charity" This year's fall musical theatre show, "Sweet Charity," takes place Friday, Oct. 18, and Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m., at CUA's Hartke Theater, 3801 Harewood Road, N.E. Music is by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields, and book by Neil Simon. Tickets are $20 for general admission; $15 for CUA alumni; and $10 for seniors, students, and CUA faculty and staff. Carnegie Hall Concert Series For the fourth year, performers from the music school will present a series of concerts at Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall in New York City, sponsored by the La Gesse Foundation. Concerts will take place Monday, Oct. 28, through Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 8 p.m., each day. Performing Oct. 28 and 29 will be CUA students chosen as 2013 La Gesse Foundation fellows, and performing on Oct. 30 will be faculty artists Nikita Fitenko, piano and Michael Mermagen, cello, with guest artist Giancarlo Bazzano, clarinet.
The Music of Frank Loesser The Musical Theatre Division's presentation of "The Music of Frank Loesser" will be Thursday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m., on the Millennium Stage at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, D.C.
CUA Chamber Choir The CUA Chamber Choir performs on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. St. Paul's Parish, K St., Washington, D.C. Leo Nestor, Justine Bayard Ward Professor and director of the Institute of Sacred Music, will conduct.
Composition Program Recital Student compositions from the music school's Composition Program will be performed on Saturday, Nov. 9, 7:30 p.m., at Ward Recital Hall.
CUA Town and Gown Community Chorus The CUA Town and Gown Community Chorus will perform on Friday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m., at St. Vincent's Chapel. Kevin O'Brien, instructor, will conduct.
CUA Symphony Orchestra The orchestra performs on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 4 p.m. at Sligo Adventist Church, 7700 Carroll Ave., Takoma Park, Md. Conducted by David Searle, assistant professor and director of orchestral activities. Selections include Mahler, Symphony No. 4 with Arianna Zukerman, soprano.
"Hansel and Gretel "The fall opera will be performed Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 21-23, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m., in Ward Recital Hall. Music by Engelbert Humperdinck, and sung in English with English surtitles. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $10 for seniors, students, and CUA alumni, faculty, and staff, and can be purchased at http://music.cua.edu .
CUA Wind Ensemble The CUA Wind Ensemble will perform on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m., in the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center Great Room, CUA campus. John Mitchell will conduct.
Annual Christmas Concert for Charity The concert will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, 7:30 p.m., at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Michigan Ave., N.E., Washington, D.C. The concert will feature the Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Choir, University Singers, University Chorus, and Women's Chorus. Leo Nestor, Justine Bayard Ward Professor and director of the Institute of Sacred Music, will conduct. Selections will include Three Carols by Peter Warlock; music of Hassler, Praetorius, Mendelssohn, and Nestor; Christmas villancicos from Spain and the New World; and a premiere of a new work by CUA graduate student Erik Abrahamson. A freewill offering will be taken up to benefit a local charity to be named later this fall.
CUA Women's Chorus The CUA Women's Chorus will perform Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m., at St. Vincent's Chapel. Kevin O'Brien, instructor, will conduct.
