WHAT: CUA to Celebrate Mass of the Holy Spirit
WHEN: Thursday, Aug. 29, at 12:10 p.m.
WHERE: Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Great Upper Church 400 Michigan Avenue, N.E. Washington, D.C. DETAILS: Cardinal Donald W. Wuerl, archbishop of Washington and chancellor of the University, will serve as the main celebrant and homilist.
Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, will serve as a principal concelebrant, along with Rev. Mark Morozowich, dean of the School of Theology and Religious Studies; Rev. Robert J. Kaslyn, S.J., dean of the School of Canon Law; Rev. Jude DeAngelo, O.F.M. Conv., University chaplain; and Rev. Phillip Brown, S.S., rector of Theological College.
Additionally, some 80 priests from the CUA community and surrounding communities will concelebrate the Mass. President John Garvey will address the congregation following Communion.
The Mass - which draws heavy attendance by students, faculty, and staff - marks the official start of the academic year at Catholic University, a practice that goes back to the universities of medieval Europe. It will be televised live by the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).
University classes will be cancelled from noon to 2:10 p.m. so that students, faculty, and staff may attend.
