Catholic University and visiting students still have time to take advantage of CUA Summer's lower tuition, housing deals, and vast array of online or face-to-face courses. Students are encouraged to register for classes by May 1. More than 600 courses and programs are offered both online and on campus.
"I encourage everyone to take advantage of the different types of classes offered. They allow students the opportunity to integrate learning with summer activities and have a great experience," says Sara Thompson, associate provost for new program initiatives and dean, Metropolitan School of Professional Studies.
Students can choose between five- and six-week sessions depending on class offerings. The first five-week session will be held May 19 through June 21, and the first six-week session runs from May 19 through June 28. Full session dates are available at summer.cua.edu/calendar/index.cfm .
Students enrolled in summer courses can also live on campus for less with special summer housing discounts. Tuition for summer classes is discounted by one-third in comparison to spring and fall rates.
Catholic University continues to expand its offering of online courses in a variety of disciplines - including business and economics, modern languages, and science among many others. "The great thing about online summer courses is that people can enroll even if they are traveling or working," states Graziella Pagliarulo McCarron, CUA Summer strategy and operations officer.
A new initiative called The Global Village, offered by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, will be introduced this summer. The program pairs instruction in the classroom with cultural activities in the community for a unique way to learn about different cultures.
In addition to courses taught in previous summers, an array of new classes is being offered. A musical theatre workshop course for teachers will be directed by N. Thomas Pedersen, head of CUA's Musical Theatre Division, and Rachelle Fleming, CUA voice faculty.
High school students can also take noncredit summer pre-college programs, enabling them to explore possible majors. These programs include Engineering New Frontiers, Experiences in Architecture, and the High School Drama Institute, new for summer 2014.
