The 2014-2015 fall and winter books edition of The Catholic University of America Press catalog, now available online and in hard copy, features a number of books scheduled for publication in the upcoming months.Among the new books featured is Transcending Architecture: Contemporary Views on Sacred Space edited by Julio Bermudez, associate professor and director of the Cultural Studies and Sacred Space graduate concentration program in the School of Architecture and Planning.
CUA Press Director Trevor Lipscombe says readers of the book "will find ideas here to please, displease, and (we trust) encourage new ways of thinking about a venerable tradition." This book is Bermudez's first CUA Press publication.
Another book featured in the catalog looks at traditions of the Church. Chorbishop Seely Beggiani, part-time associate professor in the School of Theology and Religious Studies, presents insights into the theological world-view of the Syriac church, in this new edition of Early Syriac Theology: With Special Reference to the Maronite Tradition ."[Beggiani] looks at early Syriac theology and, in compelling lucid prose, traces how early Christians who wrote in Syriac have influenced the traditions and practices of Maronite Catholics ..." writes Lipscombe in the catalog.
The latest volume from "The Library of Early Christianity" (LEC) brings The Correspondence of Pope Julius I featuring John Petruccione, founding editor and editorial director of LEC, and associate professor in the Department of Greek and Latin, as the series editor.The volume includes six letters in reference to the Arian controversy about the identification of Christ, which continued to divide the western Catholic Church until the late sixth century A.D. All of the letters are written to or by Roman Bishop Julius I (337-352). This volume is "the first comprehensive critical edition of the letters since the early 18th century," according to the CUA Press.The Catholic University of America Press publishes scholarly works and serious studies of general interest in history (ecclesiastical and secular), literature and languages, philosophy, political theory, and theology.
