DETAILS: | Most Rev. Daniel E. Flores, bishop of Brownsville, Texas, will give a talk titled "Immigration as a Theological Paradigm for Faith and Social Justice" as part of the Third Annual Hispanic Innovators of the Faith Lecture at Catholic University. Bishop Flores is the sixth bishop of Brownsville. He also serves as chairman of the Committee on Cultural Diversity at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, overseeing the subcommittees responding to the various needs of African Americans, Native Americans, and Latinos within the U.S. He is a co-signatory of "Family Beyond Borders," a Tex-Mex Border Bishops document on immigration. Bishop Flores holds a degree in sacred theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. He has served as an adjunct professor of theology at the University of St. Thomas School of Theology in Houston, Texas, and Sacred Heart School of Theology in Detroit. Bishop Flores has delivered lectures addressing prominent issues at the intersection of faith, culture, and public policy. He most recently spoke at Baylor University's Institute for Studies of Religion on "The Church, the State, and the Shifting Dynamics of Public Secularity." The lecture is free and open to the public.
