DETAILS: | Due to unforeseen circumstances, the lecture has been canceled. Vytautas Landsbergis, former president of Lithuania, will speak on "Lithuania and the Newest European Crossroads."
Landsbergis was a founder of the Lithuanian independence movement and the first president of the Republic of Lithuania after restoration of its independence from the Soviet Union was declared in 1990. He served as president until 1992. From 1996 to 2000, he was speaker of the Seimas, the Lithuanian parliament. He also previously served as a member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2014. Landsbergis has received numerous honorary doctorates and awards, including the Norwegian People's Peace Prize and the International Freedom Foundation's Freedom Award. He also is the author of books on a range of topics, including politics, poetry, musicology, art, and music history. The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.
