At their meeting in Baltimore today, the Catholic bishops of the United States elected Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz to lead their conference. Archbishop Kurtz has been a member of The Catholic University of America's Board of Trustees since 2010 and serves on its finance committee. John Garvey, President of The Catholic University of America, commented on the election of the archbishop of Louisville to lead the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops: "Archbishop Kurtz has been a dedicated member of The Catholic University of America Board of Trustees since he joined us in 2010. I am grateful to him for his energy, insight, and collaborative spirit, all of which he has exhibited as a member of the board's finance committee. I believe he will be a fine president of the bishops' conference - a natural successor to Cardinal Dolan."Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, who was elected vice president of the bishops' conference today, is also a CUA trustee, and is also a double alumnus of the University.
