DETAILS: | Sean B. Carroll, an internationally recognized evolutionary biologist, author, educator, and executive producer, will be the keynote speaker at the annual symposium hosted by The Catholic University of America's biology department. He is currently the Allan Wilson Professor of Molecular Biology and Genetics at the University of Wisconsin and leads the Department of Science Education at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Carroll received his B.A. in biology at the Washington University and his Ph.D. in immunology at Tufts University School of Medicine. Carroll has received numerous awards, including the Benjamin Franklin Medal in Life Sciences, the Distinguished Service Award by the National Association of Biology Teachers, the Viktor Hamburger Outstanding Educator Prize for Society for Developmental Biology, the Presidential Young Investigator Award by the National Science Foundation, and the Shaw Scientist Award by the Milwaukee Foundation. He has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences, as well as named a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The annual symposium highlights the research being conducted in the biology department. The event begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. Carroll's lecture is from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
