CUA Professors Can Comment on Year of Mercy
On Dec. 8, 2015, the Catholic Church will begin celebrating the Year of Mercy, a jubilee year announced by Pope Francis last March. The following Catholic University professors can comment on topics related to the Year of Mercy and jubilee years. - William Mattison , acting dean of theology and religious studies, is an expert on moral theology. He can speak to the true nature of mercy, its relationship to justice and forgiveness, and Pope Francis's emphasis on the theme of mercy. To interview Mattison, contact the Office of Public Affairs .
- Chad Pecknold , associate professor of theology and religious studies, can speak on mercy as a divine attribute, true and false concepts of mercy, the connection between this jubilee year and the medieval jubilee years, the indulgences associated with the year, and the pilgrimages Catholics will make to the various "Doors of Mercy" throughout the world - including locally to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
