Catholic University students welcomed their families to campus in September for Family Weekend.
Nearly a thousand participants attended the weekend’s events, which began on Friday with an open house hosted by the Center for Academic and Career Success, a social hosted by the Center for Cultural Engagement, and a Humanities Alumni Career Panel.
President Garvey hosted students and families at a presidential reception for the official start to the weekend, followed by a student showcase which displayed performances from Redline A Cappella, Take Note A Cappella, Catholic University Dance Team, CUA Dance Company, FOCUS, SOL, Centerstage Theatre Company, and CUA Gaels.
On Saturday morning, families could attend the Brookland Farmers’ Market at the Monroe Street Market to buy local produce or peruse the shops around the Arts Walk, and about sixty families participated in a service project outside the Pryzbyla Center.
Saturday’s events also included a Cardinal Kick-Off Party before the football game against Coast Guard Academy at Cardinal Stadium, and a women’s field hockey game against the Drew University Rangers. On Saturday night, Program Board and the Kane Fitness Center co-sponsored a Family Game Night of Minute-to-Win-it challenges and classic games. Students and families had the opportunity to participate in a scavenger hunt throughout the cool-weathered weekend to learn trivia about the University and win prizes.
On Sunday, families could participate in a campus run and family yoga to stretch before their travels home. Mass was celebrated by Rev. Jude DeAngelo, O.F.M. Conv., University chaplain, followed by a farewell reception.
