Musicians from The Catholic University of America kicked off the holiday season with the 29th Annual Christmas Concert for Charity earlier this month. The concert included performances by the Catholic University Chamber Choir, the University Singers, the University Chorus, and the CUA Symphony Orchestra conducted by Allan Laino and Timothy McDonnell from the choral conducting faculty.
Benjamin Yuly, who is pursuing his D.M.A. in composition at the University’s Benjamin T. Rome School of Music, Drama, and Arts, premiered a brand new composition, In dulci jubilo. The concert also featured new arrangements of classic carols by Catholic University alumnus Benjamin LaPrairie and McDonnell, who is director of choral activities and sacred music.
The concert will air on “In Concert” on EWTN on Dec. 25 at 9:30 a.m., Dec. 27 at 5 a.m., Dec. 28 at 1:30 p.m., and Dec. 31 at 10:30 p.m. (all times EST). They will also air the 2017 concert Dec. 19 at 4:30 p.m. and Dec. 22 at 5:30 a.m. Check local listings for more details.
