Catholic University’s Office of Marketing and Communications has been honored with two Accolades awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
An Honorable Mention in Staff Writing was given to three staff writers for five articles that appeared in CatholicU magazine during the 2018-2019 academic year. The articles recognized included two articles by CatholicU Managing Editor Ellen Woods: “Daughter of the Wind,” about an architecture professor sharing her love of a remote Mediterranean island with her students; and “Producer and Patriot,” about a Catholic University alumnus who organizes two of the most-watched and beloved live television programs each year.
Additional staff writers recognized included News Editor Katie Bahr for her articles, “Stories to Tell,” about an MFA program designed to launch the careers of aspiring playwrights; and “True Friendship,” about the relationships formed through the University chapter of Best Buddies, which pairs college students with people with special needs. Associate Editor Greg Varner was also recognized for his article, “A Friend of Books,” about the rejuvenation of the University’s Oliveira Lima Library, a century-old collection of Brazilian cultural and historical artifacts.
The Office of Marketing and Communications was also recognized with an Honorable Mention in the category of Best Practices in Communications and Marketing for the multimedia storytelling project, “A Day in the Life of Catholic University,” which chronicled 24 hours on campus through innovative video, photography, and writing. The project involved a team of communications professionals spearheaded by Lisa Carroll, web content editor and producer. Among those on her team were University Videographer Jamie Rife and former University Photographer Dana Rene Bowler.
