Catholic University Athletics was selected as the winner of the September NCAA Division III Special Olympics Spotlight Poll. With 80 percent of the total votes, the department will receive $500 towards its next Special Olympics D.C. event.
The Cardinals received 269 out of 335 votes while Curry College totaled 65 and Babson College had one.
Catholic was selected for the poll after raising over $30,000 for Special Olympics D.C. with its annual Polar Plunge in February. Student-athletes braved a real-feel temperature of 28 degrees and a 15 mph wind to jump into a portable pool inside Cardinal Stadium. The event drew 227 pledges and raised $30,713.
