March 24, 2022

Dear Members of the University Community,

Pope Francis has asked all bishops around the world and “every community and every believer to join me … in making a solemn act of consecration of humanity, especially of Russia and Ukraine, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, so that she, the Queen of Peace, may obtain peace for the world.”

This act of consecration will occur worldwide on Friday, March 25, which is the Solemnity of the Annunciation

I invite our campus community to join Cardinal Wilton Gregory, archbishop of Washington and University chancellor, at noon on Friday, March 25, as he celebrates Mass and makes the act of consecration at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

For those in class at noon, I encourage you to observe a moment of silence, offering a short prayer together with the Pope for the people of Ukraine and Russia.

Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us.

Sincerely,

John Garvey
President
