The following communication was sent to the Catholic University of America community Thursday, July 11, 2023.
The Catholic University of America welcomes the news that an arrest was made in the fatal killing of Maxwell Emerson. We are grateful to the Metropolitan Police Department, along with our Department of Public Safety, for their swift police work in apprehending the suspect.
The University has worked closely with the MPD in its investigation, including providing video surveillance footage from its campus buildings near where the incident occurred.
Even with this arrest, the University will be diligent in its efforts to ensure the safety of our campus community. We will continue to work with MPD as well as DPS and our University leadership to create additional safety measures to improve the security of our campus.
Our community continues to pray for the repose of the soul of Mr. Emerson, and for his family, friends, and those who loved him as a teacher and coach.
