Joseph Yost, the University’s newly appointed senior vice provost for Research, has been honored with election as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). This prestigious accolade underscores Yost’s substantial impact on scientific research and his unwavering commitment to mentoring the next generation of researchers.
Founded 150 years ago, the AAAS is a leading scientific society that recognizes individuals for their exceptional contributions to advancing science and its applications. Yost’s election as a Fellow was announced in April, and he is set to be formally inducted at a ceremony on September 21 at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.
Yost joined the University this August from the University of Utah School of Medicine, where he held the Stimson Presidential Endowed Chair, served as Vice Chairman for Basic Science Research in the Department of Pediatrics, and was a professor of Neurobiology and Anatomy. Before his tenure at Utah, he was an Associate Professor of Cell Biology and Neuroanatomy at the University of Minnesota.
With over three decades of experience in teaching and research, Yost is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing the University’s quest for R1 research institution status, as recognized by The Carnegie Classification®.
