President Garvey issued the following statement in response to the June 12 shooting in Orlando, Florida:
Yesterday marked a tragic day for our nation as we learned of the deadliest shooting in American history. As President of The Catholic University of America, I ask you to please join me in praying for those who died in Orlando yesterday, as well as for those who have sustained serious injuries. Let us stand with their families and help to console them on the loss of their loved ones. Let us pray for an end to such senseless acts of violence at home and abroad.
In the face of tragedy, it is natural to feel speechless and helpless. Yet, as a university community, we must stand up and honor those whose lives have been lost by renewing our commitment to uplifting and upholding the dignity of every human life in all of our words and actions.
