Parishioners at Catholic churches around the country are asked to give generously to the National Collection for The Catholic University of America. The bishops of the United States created the national collection to help advance the mission of the Catholic Church in the U.S.
Since its foundation in 1887, Catholic University has undertaken the mission to “discover, preserve and impart the truth in all its forms.” In doing so, it has endeavored to provide a place for continuing reflection, in the light of Christian faith, offering more than 60 undergraduate programs and 150 graduate/doctoral degrees.
The Catholic University of America is the only institution of higher education founded by the U.S. Catholic bishops. It welcomes students from all 50 states and 77 countries, guiding their education through faith.
The National Collection helps students around the country to pursue an education infused with values, by providing tuition assistance for students in need, among other programs. Cardinal Donald Wuerl, archbishop of Washington and chancellor of Catholic University, describes the importance of the collection for the Catholic world: “[Catholic University provides] a Catholic academic center for people coming not just for religious life and formation for priesthood but for formation for the vocation of living the Christian life, living the Catholic faith.”
