The Washington Football Team announced today that it has named Marty Hurney '93 as its Executive Vice President of Football/Player Personnel. Hurney will report directly to Head Coach Ron Rivera.
A native of Wheaton, Md., and graduate of Our Lady Of Good Counsel High School, Hurney played football at Catholic University in the mid-1970's under head coach and member of the Athletics Hall of Fame, Joe Pascale, when the program was a club team. During that time, he also served as the sports editor for the student newspaper The Tower as well as the Cardinal Yearbook.
Hurney joins Washington with 30 seasons of NFL experience as an executive, most recently as the General Manager of the Carolina Panthers. Under Hurney, the Panthers appeared in the postseason four times, with two NFC South titles, two trips to the NFC Championship game, and an appearance in Super Bowl XXXVIII.
