Use of the Catholic University Presidential Seal (seal) is limited to official documents such as diplomas.
The President and Board of Trustees of The Catholic University of America use the seal to authenticate certain official documents that they issue. A seal has no other legitimate purpose and therefore may be put to no other use.
The seal is a legal symbol of authenticity. As such, graphic images that mimic it (i.e., the name of the University or one of its constituent parts encircling the shield) are not permitted.
The Cardinal is Catholic University’s athletic symbol. Updated in 2007, it is available for use by any official Catholic University varsity and student club or intramural team.
However, the athletics logo cannot be displayed on any nonathletics materials created for a primarily off-campus audience or for clubs not officially sanctioned by Catholic University.
For any other printed item, coaches must submit a proof to Assistant Athletic Director for Communications Jason Eichelberger before going to print. This includes shirts given out at games, motivational tees produced for team purposes only, and anything else that will serve as a representation of a Catholic University athletic team.
Logos should be used with a background of red (PMS 1805), black, or white and should only appear in the color combinations shown here.
Uniforms
Teams will not have to use one of the general usage logos pictured on the previous page. Instead, teams will have the option of Catholic or Catholic University in the correct font. Uniform designs must be approved by the athletic communications officer prior to ordering.
Availability
Logos are available in the following formats:
For all questions regarding usage, please contact Jeff Jezewski at 202-319-5610 or email jezewski@cua.edu.
Letterhead and envelopes are shown in the 3-color version; however, the secondary color options are available as well. This image offers margin guidelines for setting up text on approved letterhead.
All stationery items for the University can be ordered from Ecoprint, Inc. in Silver Spring, Md.
Visit ecoprint.com/catholic.html to order University stationery, business cards, or name tags.
The typography on Catholic University business cards is identical to that of the letterhead and envelopes. Four styles are available:
NOTE: Letterhead, envelopes and business cards are available for employees of the university (faculty and staff) to use only for official university business.
NOTE: Plan Ahead for Print Projects
Please plan ahead for your upcoming print and design projects. University Publications, in the Division of University Communications, is seeing paper supply delays and higher costs for printing due to supply chain issues. The delays are particularly acute for envelopes, which can take two to three months. Submit project requests and questions via the Communications Request Form.
Email signatures should contain the following information: name, professional title, department name, The Catholic University of America, phone number, fax number (optional), email, and catholic.edu. Personal cell phone numbers may be added.
The 3-color black version of the logo should be used.
Email signatures do not include links to non-University sponsored websites. Recommended typeface is Verdana. Background should remain white.
When placing the logo in your email signature, please use the email logo file only. Departmental logos should not be used in lieu of the main University logo. The appropriate file can be accessed here on the Files for Download page. The use of other file formats will not display the logo correctly.
Directions for Placement
To place the logo file, please click on the “insert image” button. The “my drive” link or “upload” link can be used to place the logo file. If you choose to use the “my drive” link, the logo file will need to be downloaded to your Google Drive prior to insertion.
Given the limited space within social media profile areas, the approved logo is the shield only for this application. Adding additional verbiage to the shield is not permitted. To request the appropriate file, please email socialmedia@cua.edu.
The full name of the University “The Catholic University of America,” should be contained within the page name and handles, where space permits. If there is a space limitation, “Catholic University” is allowed.
The use of “CUA” is not approved for use on social media to represent the name of the University or within any imagery, profile areas, postings, or handles.
The use of the acronym “CUA” within a hashtag is not permitted on social media (i.e. #cuadining or #cuamarketing). Every effort should be made to use a hashtag that contains “CatholicU” (i.e. #CatholicUdining or #CatholicUmarketing).
Please email socialmedia@cua.edu for assistance.
