Audiences will get a behind-the-scenes look into the world of show business as the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music presents its fall musical, Kiss Me, Kate. Performances will take place in Hartke Theatre Oct. 27 through Oct. 29.
Written by the iconic composer-lyricist Cole Porter, Kiss Me, Kate follows the antics of a touring troupe of actors as they perform Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. First performed in 1949, this musical masterpiece includes some of the most famous songs in the musical theatre genre, including "So in Love," "Another Op'nin," "Another Show," "Too Darn Hot," and "Brush Up Your Shakespeare."
This production will be directed by Roberta Gasbarre of the Smithsonian's Discovery Theatre, who earned her B.A. in theater from Catholic University in 1974, with choreography by Robert Mintz, who earned his B.A. from the School of Music in 2009. The musical will be accompanied by undergraduate and graduate members of the CUA Symphony Orchestra, with musical direction by N. Thomas Pedersen, head of the Musical Theatre Division.
Performances of Kiss Me, Kate will take place in Hartke Theatre Oct. 27 and 28, at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $40 for premium seating; $25 for general admission; $15 for seniors, Catholic University alumni/faculty/staff, and members of the military; and $5 for students and those under 18.
