It was the summer of 2016. The Rio Olympics had just ended; the Pokemon Go craze was at its peak; "Captain America: Civil War" was the top movie. And 758 first-year students arrived on the campus of Catholic University to begin their journey as the Class of 2020.
They came from 38 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico, as well as 11 different countries. The class was 57 percent female and 43 percent male, with 30 percent identifying as students of color. It included 13 students named Alex, 14 named Emily, 26 named John, and four sets of twins.
